Department-Team purpose
The principal purpose of the team is to manage and engineer the short and medium term European (domestic & international) road network planning for as well as international and domestic linehaul to ensure that targeted service performance is achieved, ongoing service enhancements are implemented and linehaul costs are maintained within budget. European network Engineering sr manager drives budget cycle for linehaul in all regions (ie. trucks, trailers, assets, driver resources) and support the European Single Road Network Strategy  
Main focus is on profit driven capacity planning and integration of the different networks, (i.e. FDX/TNT, dom/int) making sure current assets are optimised and overall linehaul costs will be reduced.

Job purpose

The purpose of the job is to execute the delivery and improvement of an optimal short and medium term domestic and international network planning. The plan is balanced in terms of service and costs and based on volume forecasts, integration requirements, the road Master plan and feedback from day-to-day operations. Job holder will have 4-6 managers reporting into him with in total 30-50 employees.

Key activities and accountabilities

  • Team management
The job holder manages a team of regional road P&E managers. These regional teams consist of Project Engineer, Industrial Engineer, P&E Specialist focusing in road network engineering and linehaul planning. The sr manager is responsible for establishing a culture in which all team members contribute to establishing one Single Road Network in Europe. The key focus areas are end-to-end network routing, network engineering and end-to-end ROCS Plan cycle (more details below) in the region. Sr Manager is part of central European Network Engineering Management Team driving the European Strategy for Road.

  • End-to-end network routing
The job holder builds the end-to-end network routing by using forecasts and utilization reports from FDX and TNT. The Sr Manager P&E has a solid overview of the end-to-end network routing, including all systems and stakeholders involved. He/she executes complex initiatives within P&E and related functional areas. This may include participating in cross-functional teams of senior managers and professionals.
By steering the team and co-ordinating efforts, plans and recommendations are implemented in order to achieve optimal results for the business.
This includes translating raw business requirements into practical business proposals and leading them into the implementation phase.
The job holder uses established methods to make accurate and timely updates to the different road network systems in order to optimize costs and increasing service delivery performance.

  • Network Engineering
The job holder drives the network (capacity) planning by developing capacity relief plans (sub hub development), peak and contingency plans, network development plans, etc. He/she uses defined methods and tools to audit systems information and ensure ongoing integrity and compliance. Job holder also works with commercial team on large commercial opportunities and new business development. The job holder can successfully execute complex projects that aim to develop new or enhanced systems, processes, procedures and controls that enable effective management of network plans. This includes European or Regional initiatives in line with the scope of the entire Road P&E department.

  • Network Integration
Drive the network integration (FDX/TNT and DOM/INT) in the region of authority creating one Single Road Network which becomes FDX Ground Network in Europe. This includes the hosting of the Single Road Network steerco with cross functional representation from Operations, FP&A, Procurement and Legal. This requires standardized and optimised subcontractor management

  • End-to-end ROCS plan cycle
The job holder balances the network schedule based on expected fluctuations due to public holidays, driving restrictions, seasonal influences, arrival pattern changes, loose/ pre-load options etc. He/she supports the tactical capacity planning by developing tender requirements. He/she develops an integrated approach in terms of public holiday planning and enables integrating the international and domestic road operations within Europe

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in engineering or quantitative discipline

Preferred experience and knowledge
  • 10 years’ experience in (Express) transportation and 5 year experience in road network planning and engineering
  • Proven management skills
  • Solid knowledge of the current road network & systems is an advantage
  • Proven change management skills leading by example
