Manages a staff of engineers in designing and developing electrical and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) controls specifications for material handling systems in hub and station field operating facilities. Analyzes vendor supplied equipment and supports project installation and testing.
• Management responsibilities include, but are not limited to: hiring, terminations, coaching, skills development, recognition and rewards, performance management and staff productivity. • Plans, organizes, staffs, directs and controls the day to day operations of the department; develops and implements policies and programs as necessary. • Develops and manages the department budget; ensures compliance and addresses variances and other budget concerns. • Oversees the development of automated controls systems for manual and automated material handling systems, including but not limited to, technical specifications, installation cost estimates, and vendor supply lists. • Oversees the development of electrical/electronic specifications for design, manufacture, and installation of material handling system controls. • Implements engineering practices and procedures related to establishing automation and machine control system performance, testing protocols, and system acceptance criteria. • Evaluates, justifies, and proposes control system engineering design improvements. • Oversees and evaluates current material handling control system design processes and procedures for efficiency. • Builds and maintains relationships with suppliers of machine control systems, services, and equipment. • Collaborates and participates in cross functional projects involving material handling control system designs and automation, particularly with the Information Technology and Operations Technology functions. • Evaluates new and emerging control system designs, technologies, and components for use in future designs. • Develops, and ensures his/her staff develops, a sound understanding of field operations practices and the material handling system’s impact on those practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required; Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
• Ten (10) years experience required in engineering, technical, or related area.
Required Skills, Abilities and / or Licensure
• Software skills, including use of Microsoft Office software and web-based applications. • Verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of management. • Time management and organizational skills necessary to manage multiple projects, appropriately prioritize workload, plan for resources to meet deadlines and goals, and respond to day-to-day functional needs. • Ability to anticipate and identify problems and use sound judgment and fact-based analysis to develop effective and efficient solutions. • Ability to inspire a shared vision and empower and motivate a team. • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret electrical and mechanical schematic diagrams. • Working Knowledge of Programmable Logic Control (PLC) systems and networks, computer based operator interface systems.% of Travel for the Position: 0%-25%
