Job Summary

Manages and coordinates field and corporate based engineering resources, engaging multiple business partners including field and corporate linehaul operations resources, to drive cost reductions and improve the overall efficiency of the FedEx Ground linehaul transportation network.

Essential Functions

•Management responsibilities include, but are not limited to: hiring, terminations, coaching, skills development, recognition and rewards, performance management and staff productivity.
•Plans, organizes, staffs, directs and controls the day-to-day operations of the department; develops and implements policies and programs as necessary.
•Develops and manages the department budget; ensures compliance and addresses variances and other budget concerns.
•Manages regional FXG support and analysis (reporting, linehaul cost reductions, critical dispatch times, Linehaul schedules, hub dwell time), network support (project rollouts, equipment pools, standardized planning, new facility openings and run planning, purchased execution), peak planning, and FXSP support (reporting, analysis).
•Responsible for metric creation, maintenance, and reporting to support field execution, business processes, and budget development.
•Directs Industrial Engineers (Corporate and Field Linehaul Engineers) in analytical support (e.g., root cause analysis) and makes continuous network improvements and efficiencies using engineering. Collaborates with Linehaul Operations to improve operational efficiency through the implementation of new operational processes.
•Coordinates with Linehaul Engineering Managers, Linehaul Regional Senior Managers, Linehaul Advisors, Hub and Linehaul Managers, RIEM’s and PGH managers (e.g., MD - Hub and OB Operations Engineering and MD – Delivery & Network Quality) on quantitative and qualitative analysis of operations to identify areas of opportunity and solutions for improvement (e.g., empty miles reduction, optimization model results analysis).
•Provides field operations with technical guidance on FXG and FXSP Transportation Management Systems.
•Conducts field Linehaul engineering conference calls and participates in regional linehaul meetings.
•Follow up with engineers on project status and progress.
•Develops operational strategies/objectives with the Linehaul Regional Senior Managers and leads Hub/Linehaul Management towards the achievement of all pre-determined goals.
•Oversees and trains field management on engineering principles, methods, and procedures.
•Evaluates and validates the utilization of engineering plans for accuracy and effectiveness.

Minimum Education

•Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Logistics or related field required.

Minimum Experience

•Five (5) years’ experience required in transportation industry or related area with at least two (2) of those years working within FXG; management or project management experience preferred.

Required Skills, Abilities and / or Licensure

•Software skills, including use of Microsoft Office software and web-based applications.
•Working knowledge of Business Objects.
•Verbal and written communication skills necessary to explain complex and/or confidential information and communicate with all levels of management.
•Presentation skills necessary to facilitate training and/or deliver informational sessions to groups and/or individuals.
•Time management and organizational skills necessary to manage multiple projects, appropriately prioritize workload, plan for resources to meet deadlines and goals, and respond to day-to-day functional needs.
•Ability to anticipate and identify problems and use sound judgment and fact-based analysis to develop effective and efficient solutions.
•Ability to inspire a shared vision and empower and motivate a team.
•Ability to travel up to 50%.
•Knowledge of FXG and FXSP linehaul operations, transportation management applications, and operational processes.
•Ability to perform cost justification analysis.
•Knowledge of concepts, practices, policies and procedures related to financial concepts, and cost structure.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
