To manage information technology staff to oversee responsibilities, including but not limited to: technical support, application development, and related it services in the FedEx Trade Networks regions.
Selects, trains, develops, and motivates staff. Manages information technology staff by consulting with customers, vendors, business community associates and management to deliver systems and services that meet company needs and standards. Ensures availability of information technology systems and applications including consistent quality/security of operations in the FTN regions. Ensures the performance, support ability, and continuance of these systems and technologies by establishing procedures and documentation as directed by policies and procedures. Assists in the development of departmental policy and procedural documentation as related to each region. Reviews current automated and procedural methods, initiates action to correct inefficiencies. Interacts closely with regional management. Maintains optimal systems' stability and performance by monitoring hardware, software, and effecting the necessary configuration modifications in accordance with acceptable standards, company and departmental procedures and policies. Contributes to the overall efficiency of the department by participating in other technical support activities including development & maintenance of reference and project documentation. Assures the implementation of corporate security policies by following procedures and policies and adhering to security standards. Anticipates the effects of proposed or pending modifications and quickly and efficiently resolves immediate problems by applying technically advanced analysis and problem solving techniques specific to the situation. Conducts in-depth analysis and research into the technical makings of the specific computer system product. Uses knowledge, understanding, and applies techniques from technical reference manuals in the technical arena. Develops, communicates, and documents solutions to problems and either singly or jointly executes the solutions. Keeps abreast of technological advancements by proactively and aggressively pursuing educational opportunities that provide awareness and education in "state of the art" technical knowledge.
Bachelor's degree in computer science or other related curriculum or equivalent experience in lieu of degree. Five (5) years of experience in the applicable information technology arena required: development (web, mainframe, e-commerce), system (Unix, windows, zseries, iseries), support (service desk, technical), or quality assurance. Management experience preferred. Must be able to communicate complex technical ideas to is&t mgmt & non-technical users. Advanced computer design and problem resolution required. Ability to manage team in diagnosing very complex hardware and software component failures, research and implement the resolution. Coordinate and upgrade computer systems, in-house and 3rd party applications. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are needed for documentation, proposal preparation, and required interaction with mgmt, other info systems members, vendors, the business community, and FedEx corporate. Must be able to respond to serious information systems problems of service interruption 24 hours a day, seven days a week. ***Experience with monitoring enterprise applications
