Operates and monitors multiple system consoles and operating systems - IBM mainframe, IBM midrange (imaging), sun solaris (database and web servers), windows servers, linux servers, as well as the associated network equipment for FedEx Trade Networks (FTN) globally. Identifies machine malfunctions, ensures data integrity and security, and checks for accuracy and quality. Provides first level support for FTN's internal and external customers. Support is provided for proprietary large, mid-range and client/server host applications and hardware problem resolution as well as problem solving of internally developed and third party applications as well as all network components. Ensure time sensitivity to mission critical system outages.
Ensure all local and remote networks are functional by utilizing the various monitoring tools and interacting directly with z/os, cics, os/400, Unix, and windows environments.
Identify hardware, software, and network malfunctions, taking necessary action or direction to resolve issues as needed.
Determine escalation path and solicit assistance as needed while keeping management informed of the status.
Collaborates with peers and other it departments to ensure time sensitive response to mission critical networks, operating system, software problems, potential problems, and outages.
Ensures published slab response time to problems is consistently met.
Provide 24/7 support for the global business community & other it depts monitoring the online problem reporting site, entering and/or updating all necessary info into the tracking & reporting application in a timely & consistent manner, providing 1st level support where possible including assisting w/troubleshooting, resolving issues and/or facilitating resolution by determining the necessary escalation & engaging the team.
Grants access to production systems including duplex, buffalo as400, web & financial developers as requested on pda (production data access) forms received & performs all installations for development changes being made by the teams as requested on release tracker forms received, ensuring that these functions are done in accordance with compliance policies and procedures currently in place.
Ensure compliance with corporate sarbanes-oxley and enterprise compliance initiatives with regard to system availability, service level agreement and data confidentiality.
Administer the credit card processing for world tariff customers.
Ensure all scheduled jobs are processed and executed properly by interacting with and operating all computer equipment and various operating systems.
Perform all scheduled shut down, recycling, maintenance, and initialization of system software applications.
Assist in the development and distribution of system and application documentation, as well as educational material to reduce the frequency and volume of problems associated with selected applications and systems.
Perform back-up procedures to maintain security and integrity of the data, and prevent loss of essential information.
Provide expedient correction of reported problems to minimize the user's inability to use the failing system or application, by referencing documentation, use of knowledgebase database, and one's own knowledge and experience.
Coordinate with vendors to resolve common machine malfunctions as required.
Monitor all report and tape output to ensure the integrity, quality, and expected quantity is satisfied.
Adjust schedule as required to assist in maintaining 24/7 data center coverage.
A two-year degree in business or computer science, M.I.S., Data processing, or other related curriculum - or equivalent experience.
Knowledge of computer operating systems such as z/os, os/400, Unix, windows, lotus notes, MQSeries, etc.
Familiarity with job control language.
Understanding of computer job interrelations.
Proficient on all hardware, such as tape drives, printers, etc.
Good problem identification and resolution skills.
Ability to organize, prioritize and work unsupervised.
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills are required for efficient communication and interaction with peers as well as internal and external customers.
The ability to interact with vaious levels of technical and management staff.
