Position is accountable for directing and developing company-wide regulatory functions related to the crossborder business model to ensure compliance with U.S.Federal and state government laws & regulations, as well as global government laws and regulations. The position will work to ensure global customer satisfaction and to minimize liabilities for the company and customers. This position also is accountable for participating in planning, organizing and controlling the audit function for compliance and the output of global ecommerce, import, export, warehousing and transportation operations to ensure a consistently high level of compliance, service and quality. Provides leader- ship and direction promoting the people-service-profit philosophy as well as encouraging the growth and development of team members.
Responsible for selecting, training, motivating and developing a global compliance staff of managers and professionals to conduct and maintain the compliance of the company. Determines staffing and budget needs of the group, controlling costs to ensure department remains within budgeted guidelines. Directs and trains staff in sound human relations and operational skills to ensure corporate policies and procedures and safety methods and programs are implemented and maintained. Consistently demonstrates a high degree of leadership and maintains professional working relationships in all internal and customer interactions. Effectively organizes and manages to support the company's ecommerce, import, export, warehouse and transportation operations as well as external customers to ensure compliance and minimization of liabilities. Ensures all laws, directives, rules and procedures related to where ecommerce business activity is conducted are communicated. Establishes and implements uniform business practices and procedures for ecommerce, import, export, warehouse, and transportation operations to ensure compliance, penalty avoidance and the minimization of liabilities. Act as a liaison between management and operations to improve areas of compliance and quality. Support global it systems development, process improvement to ensure compliance with regulations & requirements. Provides senior management, key internal contacts and customers communications of compliance initiatives and problems by directing audit activities, including the gathering, analysis and dissemination of information, instructional memorandum and operating procedures for complex and sensitive data and to support risk management. Acts as an independent review and evaluation entity to ensure that compliance issues and concerns are appropriately evaluated, investigated and resolved. Collaborates with other departments in directing compliance issues to appropriate channels for investigation and resolution. Develops and maintains relationships with representatives from key government agencies, as well as supporting industry outreach with appropriate trade organizations and industry organizations. Maintains good working relationships to aid in the resolution of external and internal problems and promote company interests. Responsible for coordinating and resolving complex and serious issues pertaining to entry, export, liquidated damages, penalties, formal protests, licensing, export examinations and large scale customer requirements. Participates in customer and prospective customer meetings for the purpose of business expansion, business retention and relationship development.
Bachelor's degree/equivalent in business. Six (6) years of relevant experience in the brokerage, export and forwarding industry. Five (5) years of manage- ment/supervisory experience. Individual customs broker's license, certified customs specialist and/or certified export specialist certifications are strongly preferred. Strong management, human relations and communcation skills required.
