Position Summary

The Senior Claims Specialist will be responsible for executing effective, strategic and timely oversight of the company’s claims management and claim resolution activities by ensuring timely and appropriate reserve setting and settlement processes; evaluating the quality of and execution of claim management practices; and ensuring compliance with insurance policy terms for required claim reporting and settlement processes.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Improve the quality of and ensure the effective execution of claim management processes by following agreed claim handling standards and best practices
  • Aggressive management of Workers’ Compensation, Auto and General Liability, Property, and Bailee losses
  • Proactive identification of operational claim strategies that mitigate the cost of claims, including the development, implementation, communication and training to effectively implement identified strategies
  • Provide leadership for the claim management processes and claim resolution strategies
  • Build, maintain and manage relationships with third-party administrators, insurers, legal counsel and other claims related parties
  • Assist Risk Manager with the education, training and support to operations in the execution of consistent claim management programs
  • Provide Risk Manager with identification of trends and opportunities for training, tools, and claims processes
  • Ensure that the Company’s claim reserves are adequately and timely established for financial reporting
  • Monitor claims review program outcomes and communicate to Risk Manager the compliance observed and continued areas of opportunity for improvement
  • Provide assistance to field operations, Human Resources, and other business units on challenging claim issues
  • Coordinates with Risk Manager on complex issues

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Risk Management or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in a risk management claim function or claims department
  • Associate of Risk Management (ARM) certification preferred
  • Proficient claims management and claim process skills
  • Experience in oversight or handling of Workers’ Compensation, Property, and Casualty claims
  • Experience managing all related matters involving Workers’ Compensation, Property and Casualty insurance
  • Flexible nature, ability to prioritize effectively and the desire to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Access and other database software)
  • Experience and proficiency with Risk Management and or claims information systems skills (CS Stars, TPA Information Systems);
  • Retail experience a plus
  • Prior experience with quality management systems and analysis
  • Prior experience with process orientation knowledge and project impact on existing and emerging operational processes
