Position Summary

The Manager, Industrial Engineering leads team of engineers responsible for continuous improvement and innovation of production and transportation networks and logistics across the United States. This manager works closely with field operations, Network Operations Control Center (NOCC), internal functional groups, and industry technology providers to enable FedEx Office retain competitive advantage. Responsibilities include initiating and leading continuous process improvement of operations, evaluating new operations technologies, developing business cases and implementing innovative solutions. This position is expert in LEAN Manufacturing methodologies, printing and logistics and interacts with various stakeholders and business partners including but not limited to Sales, Operations, Technology, Marketing, other FedEx operating companies and third party vendors.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage team of engineers responsible for continuous process improvement and operations technology innovation
  • Partner with the Production, Pickup/Delivery and Network Operations teams to develop continuous process improvement roadmaps and execution plans
  • Establish “Critical to Quality” (CTQ) operations metrics for improving and tracking overall quality and operational efficiency
  • Utilize QDM principles and tools to drive continuous improvement activities.
  • Conduct cost/benefit analysis and develop business cases for implementing new production and transportation solutions
  • Provide direction in design of optimum workflow process in the manufacturing facilities and facilitate process integration with strategic partners, suppliers and vendors as needed
  • Establish process for Production/Transportation demand forecasting, and analysis/planning for capacity, capability, labor, inventory, waste, facilities, layouts, equipment, workflow and technology while keeping environmental and legal requirements in consideration
  • Track actual financial performance of new product/services after deployment to evaluate and correlate successes
  • Refine deployment processes accordingly
  • Institute and publish performance dashboards
  • All other duties as needed or required

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in industrial/manufacturing engineering or equivalent experience
  • Masters degree preferred
  • Lean/Six Sigma Certification preferred
  • 7 + years experience leading process improvement in Operations, preferably in printing and/or transportation
  • 5 + years experience in LEAN/Cellular Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S/Kaizen
  • Proficient with statistical software used for process improvement (e.g., Minitab) and process flowcharting, MS Project, Excel, Visio, and Word
  • Project management experience a plus
  • Advanced and proven organizational influencing skills
