Provides unique technical expertise and consultative services to department management in evaluating and solving operational problems through application of environmental engineering and other analytical techniques in order to reduce risk and operating expenses, increase revenues, improve systems to our customers, and provide project management of various complex tasks.

Essential Functions

  • Provides technical expertise and consultative services to management.

  • Manages and controls operations, developing alternative solutions and applying financial/risk analysis to environmental protection planning, and handling complex engineering problems.

  • Advises on policies and procedures, assisting in technical guidance, planning, recruiting, and training of staff, and supporting projects that improve environmental protection planning.

  • For Air Permit Engineer, responsibilities will include assuring compliance with all air quality regulations and requirements; acting as project administrator of environmental air quality projects and provide investigative and technical assistance to FedEx on air quality issues.

  • Identifies project needs, develops scope, prepares bid documentation, performs analysis, recommends vendor selections, and adheres to project budget and schedule.

  • Interfaces and acts as liaison with federal, state, and local environmental regulatory agencies.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Education

Bachelor’s of Science degree, preferably in engineering discipline, but will consider degrees in environmental, chemical, mechanical, petroleum or closely related discipline.

Minimum Experience

Eight (8) years of environmental engineering, compliance, and/or air quality permitting experience required. Project management experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations along with a background in regulatory compliance, field investigations, and implementation of remediation systems.

  • Must have exceptional problem solving and conceptual skills.

  • Strong analytical, planning, human relations, and communication skills.

  • Proven ability to collaborate with and influence a diverse group of stakeholders with varied priorities, fostering alignment on project objectives to maintain safe and compliant operations.

Pay Transparency: This compensation range is provided as a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary range for this role across all potential locations. If this opportunity includes multiple job levels, the range is a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary for the lowest level to the current starting salary of the highest level. Actual starting pay would be determined by experience relative to the job, market level, pay at the location for this job and other job-related factors permitted by law. An employee may be eligible for additional pay, premiums, or bonus potential. The Company offers eligible employees health, vision and dental insurance, retirement, and tuition reimbursement.
