Control Systems Eng
Description
The Control Systems Eng role includes developing skills for strategic project-level leadership, supporting computer hardware architecture, application software development, scanning, dimensioning, and weighing technology, and network design and security for FedEx’s material handling and automated sort systems.
Essential Functions
- Work to develop knowledge and working competency with current technical capabilities of industrialized computer systems, programmable controllers, operating systems, application development software, database applications, scanning systems, and network hardware/architecture
- Providing job site inspections to ensure contractor compliance with standards, specifications, and plans, assisting project management in planning and scheduling, and supporting other key SCSE departmental employees to ensure technical support
- Provide technical support for all projects they are involved in to operational workgroups (maintenance and technical support) and assist in reviewing project bids and change orders on outside development work and construction/fabrication projects
- Maintain communication within the sort control software and engineering workgroup and peer workgroups within PPD
- Assist with research and development projects for improving productivity and increasing dimensioned and weight revenue from material handling systems
- Monitor and control items for which they are responsible, including outsourced software development, entire material handling computer control systems, fabrication of computer control systems, and their installation
- Developing competency with technical support and problem resolution of all hardware and software associated with the computer control systems for projects programmed by the individual
- Assist in providing proper computer architecture and software strategy for computerized control systems for FedEx’s material handling and automated sortation systems
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Education
Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related fields.
Minimum Experience
Two (2) years of experience in designing and implementing integrated control systems for complex material handling and automatic sortation systems.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Experience with Rockwell PLC, HMI, historian, and associated applications.
Understanding of project-level system architecture and software strategy .
