Description

The successful candidate will serve as a Database Advisor supporting the Enterprise Teradata Vantage (Azure-based) platform and providing Google Cloud Platform (GCP) expertise, including BigQuery, to support cloud analytics and integration planning. This role provides technical leadership in the design, implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of enterprise database environments, while partnering with business, development, and support teams to ensure performance, reliability, and appropriate data usage across on-premise and cloud platforms.


Essential Functions

  • Provide leadership in the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise database solutions across Teradata Vantage/Azure and Google BigQuery.
  • Develop and execute workload optimization strategies within the Teradata Vantage/Azure platform and Google BigQuery.
  • Perform root cause analysis, coding, testing, documentation, and implementation for multiple enterprise-led initiatives, including solution design and production releases.
  • Serve as a liaison between business customers, application development teams, and support organizations.
  • Ensure quality control and auditing of database environments to support accurate, secure, and appropriate use of data.
  • Monitor and manage performance across multiple Teradata systems and BigQuery datasets.
  • Perform system monitoring and issue resolution, including database locks, backup failures, delayed queues, space constraints, and performance issues.
  • Respond to production change requests and provide support for outages, performance degradation, and user support needs.
  • Perform query tuning and query rewrites to improve efficiency and system performance, including BigQuery SQL optimization when applicable.
  • Implement database object changes related to query optimization, including index creation and modifications to table structures, as well as BigQuery partitioning, clustering, and table design best practices.
  • Support Enterprise Information Warehouse usage by collaborating with users across the enterprise.
  • Review, create, and modify Application IDs, including validating associated SQL and batch jobs.
  • Review and manage break/fix requests and access requests to ensure appropriate data access and governance.
  • Coach and mentor less senior DBAs to support team development and performance.
  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


Required

  • Strong database design, performance tuning, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proven ability to perform root cause analysis in complex production environments.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment.


Preferred / Considered a Plus

  • Teradata infrastructure expertise and/or Teradata certification.
  • Azure or cloud infrastructure experience.
  • Google Cloud Platform experience, including hands-on familiarity with BigQuery and GCP data services.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments.
  • Demonstrated ability as an effective change agent and collaborative problem solver.
  • AI or advanced analytics experience.


Minimum Qualifications


Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent formal training or work experience.


Minimum Experience

Five (5) years of experience in an information technology or engineering environment.


Domicile

This position is based in Memphis, TN and can be performed on a hybrid or fully remote basis, subject to business needs and manager approval.


Pay Range:

U.S. Pay Range: $7,094.23/month - $12,533.14/month

New York Pay Range: $7,488.36/month - $12,533.14/month

New York City Pay Range: $9,458.98/month - $12,533.14/month

Colorado Pay Range: $7,488.36/month - $12,010.93/month
