Job Description

A career in our Sort Solutions organization will provide you with a unique opportunity to lead transformation and strategic initiatives for a leading transportation and logistics provider. As Domain Architect, this position is focused on architecture and implementation of solutions for supply chain operations within the Sort Domain. Daily activities will include engagement with enterprise and solution architects to determine impact assessment, decompose and analyze business initiatives. In this position, you will work in close partnership with business partners and architects to define architectural guidance for program-level product and development teams to solve problems with high system interdependency. You will be a leader in sortation architecture, inform the development of cross-functional, multi-platform systems, engage with enterprise and solution architects across FedEx and mentor other architects.

 Additionally, this position works closely with and engages business and technical stakeholders at all levels of the FedEx Enterprise to translate FedEx business initiatives into actionable implementation roadmaps. The Domain Architect will work with stakeholders and architects to identify and define enterprise capabilities and create initiative-based architectural artifacts for the consumption of the teams to execute with a business value driven approach. This will require understanding of the impact and influence of broader industry and technology trends on the technology vision to recommend action plans for our global Sort leadership team.

Essential Functions

  • Applies enterprise principles, standards and practices serving as the conduit for influencing Enterprise Architecture direction while optimizing solutions.
  • Responsible for decisions/priorities regarding the overall domain architecture.
  • Translate business impacts for the domain into architectural solutions (current and target state).
  • Develop architecture solutions that meet performance, scalability, reliability and security needs.
  • Provide technical guidance to development team. Mentor those in less senior positions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Abilities/Knowledge/Skills Considered A Plus: 

  • Experience in architecture and implementation of solutions in global supply chain operations. 
  • Strategic IT Planning: Develop and implement IT strategies that align with business goals, ensuring future scalability, flexibility, and robustness of the Sort Solutions environment. 
  • Technology Roadmaps: Create and maintain long-term technology roadmaps that outline the strategic direction for Sort Solutions, architecture, and operational models. 
  • Solution Architecture: Design and oversee the implementation of comprehensive solutions that meet business requirements, covering aspects like application design, data management, integration, security, and cloud strategy. 
  • Architecture Frameworks Experience working with Business and IT Architects in requirements analysis and modeling tools (e.g., IRIS, Sparx, or other similar tools) 
  • Technology Evaluation: Assess and recommend new technologies, platforms, and systems to optimize business operations while ensuring alignment with existing architecture. 
  • Governance: Establish and enforce governance practices to ensure IT policies, standards, and practices are followed throughout the enterprise. 
  • Security and Compliance: Ensure IT systems and solutions comply with regulatory standards and are designed with security as a top priority. 
  • Collaboration and Leadership: Lead cross-functional teams in the architecture development process, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and act as a technology advisor to senior management. 
  • Integration Management: Ensure seamless integration of new technologies with legacy systems and across various departments. 
  • Performance Optimization: Monitor and optimize the performance of enterprise systems, ensuring high availability, reliability, and security of IT infrastructure. 
  • Innovation and Emerging Technologies: Knowledge of the latest trends in edge computing, IoT, AI/ML, and other emerging technologies, identifying opportunities for their application for Sort solutions  
  • Risk Management:  Identify risks associated with the architecture and recommend solutions to mitigate potential disruptions to the business. 

Domicile Information

Up to 25% travel is required

This position can be domiciled anywhere in the United States. The ability to work remotely within the United States may be available based on business need. The ability to work hybrid is available in the following locations: Memphis, TN; Pittsburgh, PA; Orlando, FL; Dallas, TX.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information Systems, business and/or equivalent formal training or work experience.

Minimum Experience

Five (5) years work experience in information technology or engineering environment. A related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:  

Pay Transparency: This compensation range is provided as a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary range for this role across all potential locations. If this opportunity includes multiple job levels, the range is a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary for the lowest level to the current starting salary of the highest level. Actual starting pay would be determined by experience relative to the job, market level, pay at the location for this job and other job-related factors permitted by law. An employee may be eligible for additional pay, premiums, or bonus potential. The Company offers eligible employees health, vision and dental insurance, retirement, and tuition reimbursement.

Pay: US pay range: $9,208 to $16,575 monthly
