We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Operations Research Analyst / Data Scientist to join our dynamic team at FedEx. In this role, you will leverage your expertise to provide advanced analytical research, use statistical and mathematical programming for machine learning and predictive analytics, natural language processing, network simulation & optimization and delivery data-driven capabilities to drive innovative solutions for operational/strategic decision-making. 

 

What you will be doing: 

  • Develop and implement mathematical models to optimize logistics processes, such as route planning, inventory management, and warehouse operations 

  • Design and improve algorithms for example for dynamic scheduling, load balancing, and resource allocation, etc. 

  • Use statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms to forecast demand, supply chain disruptions, and other critical metrics 

  • Develop predictive models to improve inventory management and transportation planning 

  • Develop simulation tools to evaluate the impact of different strategies and scenarios on logistics operations 

  • Provide advanced analytical research to assess potential outcomes of operational changes and to support strategic planning 

  • Work closely with various departments, including operations, IT, and business, to understand their needs and provide data-driven solutions and (co-)develop solutions with other data-literate teams across the globe 

  • Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders, including senior management, through clear storytelling, presentations and detailed reports 

  • Support with project management and business case development 

  • Conduct research and development and identify opportunities for designing solutions to solve complex operations problems, lift constraints, and maximize the strengths of the FedEx Express operations 

 
What do you bring with you: 

  • Education - Master's degree or Ph.D. in Operations Research, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field or relevant discipline or equivalent in proven experience. 

  • Technical Skills - Proficiency in mathematical modeling, optimization techniques, and statistical analysis. Preferable programming skills in Java and Python. Experience with data visualization tools like PowerBi, Tableau, or similar. Familiarity with machine learning frameworks and libraries such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch. Knowledge of big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, or similar. 

  • Analytical Skills - Ability to analyze complex problems, develop strategies, and implement effective solutions. Ideally experience with simulation modeling and decision support systems. 

  • Experience - Minimum of 1-3 years of relevant experience in operations research, data science, or a related analytical role. Experience in supply chain, logistics, or transportation industries is a plus. 

  • Soft Skills - Excellent communication skills, fluency in English (both verbal and written), with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment. Ability to innovate and think creatively and strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and quality. Willingness to continuously learn and stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies. 

  • Flexibility Ability to demonstrate flexibility in a dynamic environment by supporting the highest priority areas (data science, research, BI, etc.) as demanded in the role.
