Description

The job entails implementing safe packaging methods to reduce costs, increase revenue, and improve customer service. Key responsibilities include: Identifying and recommending corrective actions for container and bulk loading methods that contribute to damages.

Essential Functions

  • Assists in identifying station/ramp container and bulk loading methods contributing to damages and makes recommendations to management for corrective action.
  • Reviews station and/or ramp handling practices and develops corrective action plan with appropriate management.
  • Assists in inspecting high declared value damages at shipper or consignee to determine cause and liability.
  • Assists sales in identifying customers that require improved packaging methods.
  • Establishes and coordinates communication/qat network within district and regions to eliminate (prevent) all types of damaged and lost packages, including delayed delivery failures.
  • Monitors, analyzes and recommends ways to improve service, reduce costs and package damages.
  • Provides appropriate technical training to field personnel in such areas as damage reduction, proper packing for various commodities and package handling; delivers package handler training program to appropriate station/ramp personnel.
  • Collaborating with districts to constantly improve container loaded density.
  • Assists in identifying, tracking and reporting damage and loss cargo claim trends to district management; assists in identifying the top 10 customers that are filing repetitive claims affecting station/district p&l and cost per package.
  • Provides district operations with local expertise in proper packaging and package acceptance.
  • Conducts station "quality checks" to assist station/ramps with re-wrap operation plan which includes proper manning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education

Bachelors degree in industrial engineering or related engineering discipline required.

Minimum Experience

Two (2) years professional experience in industrial engineering (IE) or related field required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong analytical, computer and communication skills.

Job Conditions

Some travel required.


Preferred Qualifications: Experience with distribution packaging protocols (ISTA/ASTM), CAD software for package design, strong presentation/communication skills desired. This position will be hybrid in Collierville TN and candidates must live within a 50-mile radius. Relocation assistance may be available based on business need.
