Summary:
As a FedEx Dataworks Intern, you will be working on projects gaining you valuable, real-world experience in a professional environment as it relates to your field of study.
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented platform and data engineer intern to join our team. This position offers valuable hands-on experience with cutting-edge cloud infrastructure, data platform tools, and development frameworks in a professional work environment.
As an intern in engineering, you will participate in the development, integration, configuration, and management of technical solutions and frameworks deployed within cloud platforms ensuring performance, scalability, and reliability of analytical applications. The candidate must be able to identify various patterns for data acquisition, processing, and management with respect to differing data types, volume, velocity, and accessibility requirements supporting BI /AI /ML based use cases and applications. Building upon pattern identifications this person will work closely with architects and engineers to develop analytical frameworks and solutions which will support FedEx's Data and Analytics Platform. This internship is ideal for someone passionate about cloud technologies and data analytics.
Essential Functions
- Present and deliver long-term solutions that will have significant impacts to the business and/or customer experience.
- Participates in various networking and/or community service events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Basic programming skills and ability to learn new languages, including but not limited to: Python, SQL
- Basic knowledge of mathematical optimization and solution methods for linear and integer programming
- Basic knowledge of designing and building machine learning models
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities for this position may include:
- Designs, writes, tests, and deploys configurable, scalable pipelines for provisioning infrastructure and/or for ingesting, parsing, transforming, aggregating, and making data consumable within FedEx's Data and Analytics Platform
- Develops and supports infrastructure-as-code within an approved CI/CD pipeline process adhering to standards and best practices
- Implements CI/CD pipelines for promoting infrastructure and analytical solutions into higher level environments through validation, operational gating, and DevOps automation
- Collaborates in maintaining modular, reusable, and scalable configurations
- Implements solutions supporting data processing, data lakes, and advanced analytics use cases
- Supports the creation of data pipelines and workflows for analytics and reporting
- Implements data products and/or metrics that can be used to drive value, action, and inform business decisions
- Develops, optimizes, and troubleshoots SQL queries and dashboards
- Participates in feature/requirements grooming and development of technical user stories, translating and developing stories into working solutions
- Participates in the design, development, and implementation of data structures, systems, and solutions ensuring technology solutions are in alignment with architectural principles and target state
- Participates in code reviews and team meetings to ensure quality and knowledge sharing
- Applies best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, analysis/design, documentation, coding standards, code reviews, source code management, build processes, testing, and operations
- Implements solutions that meet performance, scalability, reliability, and security needs
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•Familiarity with cloud platforms and cloud technologies such as Azure Databricks, Databricks SQL, Unity Catalog, Azure Data Factory, Delta Lake, and Azure Data Lake Storage
•Familiarity with one or more of the following:
Terraform, SQL(writing and debugging queries), code/version control and CI/CD (with tools such as Git, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub, GitHub Actions), Python, Java, Linux, Data parsing/preparation/workflows with ELT and ETL tools
•Basic knowledge or experience working within an Agile setting
•Excellent written communication, verbal communication, and presentation skills
•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
•Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new tools and technologies
•Enthusiastic with a Positive Attitude
•Strong collaboration skills
•Ability to work productively and proactively, both independently and as a part of teem.
•Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
•Demonstrates interpersonal communication skills.
Minimum Education
Currently enrolled student or recent college graduate (within 6 months of graduation) at a college/university obtaining a 3.0 GPA or higher.
Degree: Engineering, Analytics, Business, or related analytical discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:
Pay Transparency: Salary is $25/hour for undergraduates and $30/hour for graduates. This internship can be domiciled anywhere in the United States. The ability to work remotely within the United States may be available based on business need.
