LM449: Safety Specialist

To assist in the organization and administration of field operations safety policies which includes vehicle, facility, dangerous goods, health, and ramp operations?_x000D_

Assists in determining safety requirements and formulates plans and methods to improve the safety of employees in field operations to reduce costs, worker injuries, accidents, and property losses. Informs the appropriate management of the status of safety activities and actions taken to resolve identified hazardous operating conditions in field operations. Determines areas of recurring accidents and recommends actions to prevent unsafe operating procedures and conditions by ensuring corrective action are accomplished. Assists in the collection, review, and analysis of accident reports which are consolidated into statistical data for the purpose of identifying and isolating significant facts and trends. Assures compliance with applicable safety and health agency regulations. Assists in determining the need for safety education of various skilled groups or employees by analysis of operations and review of surveys, accident reports, and plans programs designed to emphasize safe operating procedures. Coordinates with the responsible operating departments within FedEx to review plans and specifications for new vehicles/facilities/modifications and existing vehicles/facilities to ensure conformance with safety standards and procedures. Serves as a representative of the safety office at formal conferences for the promotion of safety and the development of safety standards and codes as they relate to field operations. Informs management of the status of safety problems and actions taken to resolve all identified hazardous operating conditions. Reviews with properties the plans and modifications to existing facilities to ensure conformance with safety standards and procedures.
Bachelor's degree/equivalent. Two (2) years professional experience in one or more of the following areas with demonstrated knowledge in the majority of the remaining areas: vehicle safety, dangerous goods, industrial/occupational safety, or fire prevention/ protection. Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and BMSC regulations. Good investigative, analytical, and communication skills. Fluency in English.
