Description

Lead a team of data engineers, decision scientists and Machine Learning engineers and work
on business problems that requires application of advanced techniques. Help FedEx leverage its vast amounts of data that is generated in normal course of business and build solutions using advanced machine learning and decision science techniques. Focus on end to end solution development, testing, DevOps management and implementation. Create and provide recommendations and insights to senior business leaders. Develop a vision to grow and scale the Decision Science & Machine Learning (DSML) practice in COE.

Role:

  • The Forecast Modeling manager will lead a team of decision scientists, machine learning engineers and data analysts responsible for developing forecasts of volume, yield, and revenue using statistical and machine learning models to predict current course and speed of business
  • He/she will be responsible to continually improve the forecast accuracy and will explore and adopt new forecasting techniques, methods and modeling approaches that are relevant and appropriate to FedEx
  • He/she will be aware and be ahead of the business, industry, competitive and customer dynamics, economic & trade cycles and the expected impact on FedEx business performance
  • He/she must have the passion to work in a very dynamic environment where tactical and strategic activities are driven in parallel
  • He/she will own and drive major initiatives related to forecasting and revenue planning transformation
  • He/she will provide expert consultation and thought leadership to senior management and mentors team members to drive results and effectively collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver on business goals & objectives

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of high performing team of decision scientists, machine learning engineers, data analysts and business analysts with a wide scope of responsibilities across revenue forecasting, planning and insights generation
  • Develop monthly baseline forecasts for the international business using advanced forecast models
  • Guide team members to continuously improve performance of forecast models, understand the region, country specific nuances and apply those learnings to improve forecast accuracy
  • Coach team members to interpret baseline forecasts, to analyse trends and patterns, to identify outliers, to correlate with external factors like specific economic events, leading economic indicators, or customer/pricing related impacts, etc.
  • Be up to date on the global economy, logistics and transportation industry - seasonality, trends and events and continually monitor competitor/industry developments
  • Collaborate with various business stakeholders to learn about business challenges, understand the insights needs and identify opportunities to facilitate informed decisions
  • Provides expert guidance and thought leadership to business partners and executive leadership on the appropriate application of advanced decision science methods on complex business problems

  • Decision science Modeling: Expertise in developing and deploying statistical and machine learning models using large volumes of data and building analytical solutions to business problems
  • Stakeholder Management: Partner with stakeholders across functions (ex: sales, finance, pricing, marketing) to gather inputs to develop forecast and provide relevant actionable insights
  • Communication: Seamlessly communicate with all levels and build effective working relationships using strong interpersonal skills. Clearly convey findings and results to non-technical stakeholders
  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership to effectively influence across all levels of the organization
  • Critical Thinking: Evaluate, analyze and interpret information, challenge assumptions and make informed decisions
  • Problem-Solving: Identify/anticipate problems and develop effective solutions by thinking logically and creatively and be resourceful
  • Attention to Detail: Consistently produce high-quality and accurate work by being focused, thorough, diligent, attentive and detail oriented
  • Storyboarding: Effective forecast story boarding by capturing key insights from analysis. Build sensitivity and scenario analysis to support forecast reviews with various stakeholders
  • Technical Knowledge: Experience working in Azure using Python & Databricks to build statistical and machine learning models
