Description
Takes ownership and responsibility for the support the design, build, test and maintain data pipelines at big data scale. Leads a team responsible for modeling and development to support operations initiatives, strategic programs and new products and solutions. Strong background and experience in the use of advanced descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, prescriptive and ensemble modeling, advanced statistical techniques, and complex mathematical tools. Uses expertise to lead a team that initiates and delivers projects and develops end-to-end solutions that drive business results, including proofs-of-value for new business problems and production-ready solutions for operations and customer-facing products. Understands and ensures development of solutions supporting the movement of data and information assets following API-First / Service-Oriented Architecture principles. Advances Dataworks’ broad capabilities to use and deploy cutting edge data science and machine learning tools in Dataworks projects, platforms and products. Provides expert consultation and thought leadership to senior management. Mentors other team members to drive results and effectively collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver business goals.
Essential Functions
- Leads team responsible for software development and data engineering within the organization responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining all application software and data pipelines for real-time/batch analysis, modeling, reporting, and data collection, ensuring data reliability, efficiency, and quality
- Collaborate effectively with all the stakeholders including the teams within Dataworks such as Data Science, Product Management, SAD, and Platform Engineering, and the planning & engineering teams across regions to deliver outcome and value driven solutions to Operation and business execution teams.
- Ensure a team of software and data engineers builds, deploys, and maintains UI, API and data layer that enables the data democratization by working closely with data science, product, application development and strategic teams.
- Ensure adherence to best practices to ensure reliability, resiliency, security, privacy, and compliance for all application UI/API/Data layers.
- Evaluates and implements best practices, tools and processes for web-based application software, APIs, data access and analysis, including large data sets.
- Provide post launch support by partnering with SRE team to ensure the high availability and performance of the applications and products. ·
- Provide adequate staffing, and financial and contractual oversight for a team of data and software engineers. Coach and mentor other team members to drive results and effectively collaborates across cross-functional teams to deliver business goals.
Skills / Abilities
- Expertise in software development in building the solutions for the operation domains like Clearance, Sort, P&D and Linehaul Air/Surface
- Experience in architecting and developing User Experience, REST-based APIs and Data Layers
- Compelling track record of designing and deploying large scale technical solutions that deliver tangible, ongoing value
- Ability to context-switch to provide support to dispersed teams to unblock especially challenging technical obstacles, and to work through problems as they are still being defined
- A design mindset embracing ambiguity combined with an engineering mindset willing to make rapid, pragmatic decisions to improve performance and accelerate progress
- Experience in the transportation industry and understanding of evolving technology
- Familiarity with analyzing large-scale structured and unstructured data using Scala and Python
- Experience working in Big Data technologies like Spark, Kafka, etc., with a solid understanding of best practices
- Development experience within Cloud technologies like Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud platform
- Experience in the use of the Agile methodology and Agile based tools
- Leads others through project/analysis by setting and coordinating priorities, developing timelines, monitoring deliverables, and coaching and guiding as needed
- Able to demonstrate creativity and initiative in analyzing business issues and proposing Solutions.
- Able to consistently drive a team to be outcome driven
- Strong written and verbal communication including the ability to clearly articulate recommendations and adapt messaging to audience
- Includes the ability to effectively add clarity based on an abstract idea with limited management input
- Ability to define a complex abstract problem, identify a solution including alternatives, and successfully influence stakeholders
Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics or Engineering and/or equivalent formal training or work experience.
Minimum Experience
Seven (7) years equivalent work experience in measurement and analysis, quantitative business problem solving, simulation development and/or predictive analytics. Extensive knowledge in data engineering and machine learning frameworks including design, development and implementation of highly complex systems and data pipelines. Extensive knowledge in Information Systems including design, development and implementation of large batch or online transaction-based systems. Strong understanding of the transportation industry, competitors, and evolving technologies. Experience providing leadership in a general planning or consulting setting. Experience as a leader or a senior member of multi-function project teams. Strong oral and written communication skills. A related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirements.
Domicile Information:
This position can be domiciled anywhere in the United States. The ability to work remotely within the United States may be available based on business needs.

Pay Transparency: This compensation range is provided as a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary range for this role across all potential locations. If this opportunity includes multiple job levels, the range is a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary for the lowest level to the current starting salary of the highest level. Actual starting pay would be determined by experience relative to the job, market level, pay at the location for this job and other job-related factors permitted by law. An employee may be eligible for additional pay, premiums, or bonus potential. The Company offers eligible employees health, vision and dental insurance, retirement, and tuition reimbursement.
Pay: Annual Range – $135,360 – $203,040
