What You Will Be Doing
VAT Compliance: Serve as a trusted VAT compliance point of contact by providing expert guidance on VAT. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and external tax advisors to ensure accurate interpretation and application of VAT regulations across European markets with the filing of the VAT returns. Handle day-to-day ad hoc VAT compliance questions from the business, ensuring timely and practical advice. Ensure all business projects and transactions are compliant and optimized from a VAT perspective. You will be leading a team of ~12 VAT compliance experts.
E-Invoicing, VAT Reporting and SAF-T: Lead the VAT reporting, E-invoicing and SAF-T initiatives for Europe ensuring compliance with local and cross-border VAT rules. Oversee the accuracy and efficiency of VAT data submission across various platforms and support the Tax Advisor who is looking after the systems from a VAT operational point of view. You will be leading a team of VAT Digital Tax Compliance experts and providing direction and guidance to the IT team supporting the initiative.
Audit and Inquiries Support: Support responses to VAT audits and queries from European tax authorities, especially related to automat VAT process, by working closely with the tax subject matter experts in the tax team. Prepare comprehensive documentation and formulate detailed responses to ensure smooth VAT audit processes and compliance with relevant legislation.
Tax Control Framework: Contribute to the development and enhancement of the company’s tax control framework for indirect taxes. This includes designing and refining policies, procedures, and ongoing testing to ensure robust compliance and operational efficiency.
Cross-Functional Communication and Relationship Management: Build strong internal networks within the company by collaborating across departments, aligning on VAT objectives, and influencing cross-functional teams to achieve compliance. Externally, maintain key relationships with tax authorities, industry associations, and external tax consultants to stay informed of regulatory changes and best practices.
What Do You Bring With You
- Excellent language skills (written/ verbal). English professional proficiency is a must. Another language beside English and native language is a plus;
- Diploma in Tax Law / Economics / Accounting / CPA;
- Strong technical expertise in financial statements, revenue recognition, and tax reconciliation;
- Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to manage and guide teams toward achieving tax objectives;
- Commitment to continuous improvement and can-do mindset, driving efficiency and process enhancements in tax operations;
- Knowledge of (the working of) ERP systems like Oracle. Experience with OITC is a plus;
- Excellent soft skills including communication, flexibility, innovative thinking, exposure on dealing with (senior) management, analytical skills, judgement and decision making, working independently;
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience in VAT compliance including people management; experience with a consultancy firm (big-4) is a plus.
