Manager, IT – Infrastructure and Systems Design
The Manager, IT provides strategic leadership and technical oversight in the design and implementation of LINUX servers, storage systems, virtual environments, and system interfaces. This role ensures alignment with business requirements, promotes best practices, and leads the resolution of complex infrastructure challenges. The manager also develops technologies related to storage networking and provisioning while managing a team of exempt professionals.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage at least two full-time exempt direct reports, including hiring, coaching, skill development, recognition, and performance management.
- Plan, organize, staff, direct, and control daily departmental operations; develop and implement policies and programs.
- Develop and manage the department budget; ensure compliance and address variances.
- Coordinate high-level and detailed design deliverables for LINUX servers, storage, virtual environments, and system interfaces.
- Develop and document system standards based on industry best practices.
- Recommend system tuning parameters to optimize performance.
- Advise other teams on technical design problems and recommend solutions.
- Design and implement technologies for storage networking and provisioning.
- Advise on budgetary strategy for LINUX, VMware (ESX), and Storage/SAN infrastructure.
- Develop and enforce standards for IBM AIX systems including LPARs, VIO servers, and HMC; implement recovery solutions using mksysb and mkdvd.
- Design installation, backup, and recovery solutions for HPUX systems using Ignite.
- Design and configure RHEL systems; implement recovery using Satellite and Kickstart.
- Design and configure Sun Solaris environments.
- Design ESX servers and virtual environments.
- Develop strategic designs for storage systems and advanced SAN configurations.
- Design and implement storage replication technologies.
- Lead or assist in resolving complex production issues related to system performance, networking, and storage.
- Gather performance and usage statistics for capacity planning and reporting.
- Generate and maintain documentation for LINUX, SAN, and storage environments.
- Design system security across LINUX platforms.
- Design printing and backup solutions for system recovery and disaster recovery.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred, with 8+ years of relevant experience.
- In lieu of degree, equivalent training and 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Minimum 2 years of management experience desired; previous management experience required.
- Department-level span of control or higher.
- Minimum 7 years of experience with enterprise infrastructure (specific technologies to be inserted).
