Description
Ensures safe and legal handling of dangerous goods-hazardous materials including proper separation, palletizing, and aircraft and-or truck loading. Provides clerical and administrative support for station operations, ensuring all dangerous goods paperwork is completed accurately and timely and properly distributed to all necessary parties. May perform clean-up, regulated waste activities, and other duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Determines acceptability of declared dangerous goods packages via visual inspection and use of checklist or compliance application as required.
- Monitors other packages for potentially dangerous goods via visual inspection, handling, and accompanying paperwork. When deemed safe and necessary, opens packages with manager’s approval to identify rejected shipments and process accordingly.
- Sorts packages according to destination and split list to ensure accurate transport.
- Pulls proper copies of air bills, declarations, and hazardous materials shipping papers, sorts batches, and redirects copies for dangerous goods manifesting, as appropriate. Reviews and prepares load manifests, transport documents of outbound vehicles, and/or aircraft. Maintains all files for dangerous goods paperwork as required by FedEx and applicable regulations.
- Monitors handling of dangerous goods through the station or ramp. Loads dangerous goods into vehicles and/or aircraft. Audits inbound vehicles and/or flights for compliance with applicable laws and FedEx policy.
- Maintains dangerous goods manuals and supplies, including copies of regulations, procedures, and job aids.
- May perform clean-up and/or ensure proper response to any dangerous goods spills in vehicles, aircraft, or facility. Ensures proper containment and disposal according to applicable laws and policies, giving direction to management and staff as required in these matters. Acts as liaison with safety and other departments, as required.
- Completes reports accurately and timely for damaged hazardous materials.
- Properly manages regulated waste for repacking, labeling, storage, and preparation for offsite disposal in compliance with applicable laws and FedEx policies. Additional Operations essential functions:
- Provides clerical support to various management and operational functions, including, but not limited to, photocopying, filing, faxing, emailing, and answering telephone.
- Reviews, researches, and/or enters data into various systems to support respective functional area.
- Compiles data and provides various regular and ad-hoc reports to management for review and determination.
- Serves as frontline customer service to receive, solve and/or escalate customer inquiries and issues. Additional Quality Assurance/Loss Prevention essential functions:
- Supports ability for timely delivery and mitigates loss and damage by performing address searches/corrections through various sources and ensuring packages are in good condition for the customer.
- Prioritizes workflow to maximize the number of packages that can be resolved and sent out for delivery on the same day.
- Ensures all packages receive appropriate scan statuses. Inspects and handles hazardous material damages as per policy. Ensures all loose product is accounted for as per company policy.
- Researches missing packages to understand the root cause of scanning failures and compiles information on disputed deliveries for management review.
- Reviews and trends loss and damaged claims filed to identify improperly charged claims and brings to the attention of management.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION
- High school diploma or GED required.

- None required.
KNOWLEGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to successfully complete all required basic and recurring training for dangerous goods, clean-up, FedEx waste, and/or related topics
- General business skills such as typing; data entry and review; and use of office equipment, such as phone and copier
- Software skills, including use of Microsoft Office software and web-based applications
- Ability to read, write, communicate, and comprehend English required to ensure compliance to applicable regulations
- Customer service skills necessary to respond to requests effectively and professionally
- Verbal and written communication and presentation skills necessary to communicate with all levels of management
- Time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills necessary to work in a fast-paced environment, handling various tasks and changing priorities, while maintaining a high attention to detail and accuracy to achieve goals.
