General Summary 

The preventionist's main function is to support managers and workers in the workplace in the identification, correction and control of environmental risks. To do this, he/she will be involved in conducting audits, investigations, accident analyses and risk assessments and will communicate the results to key stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and participate in workplace inspections.
  • Plan, coordinate and participate in OHS audits in the distribution center
  • Conduct preventive inspection
  • Evaluate the risks present in the environment using a risk matrix.
  • Coach and actively support supervisors in incident/accident investigations.
  • Coach and actively support supervisors in the implementation of corrective measures.
  • Verify compliance with OHS rules and procedures and communicate any deficiencies to key people.
  • Act as awareness agent and intervene when needed.  
  • Produce OHS statistical reports • Analyze the risks of the work environment and recommend prevention programs accordingly.
  • Participate and lead health and safety committee meetings.
  • Participate in the update/development of the lockout program, work at height, confined space.
  • Write and communicate information on work safety and accident prevention to the employee groups concerned.

Education/Experience

  • Occupational health and safety certificate or technique
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in a similar position
  • Flexible and available to work outside of regular business hours
  • Bilingualism French/English (essential);
  • Ability to work in a context of continuous improvement and change.
  • Ability to prioritize.
  • Communication, negotiation and persuasion skills.
  • Organizational skills, rigor and autonomy.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations

  • Ability to use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel.
  • Ability to sit/walk/stand for up to 10 hours per day. 
  • Ability to intermittently crawl, squat, climb, twist, bend, stoop, push or pull.
  • Must possess visual acuity, i.e., close, distance, and color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to lift/carry items less than 40 pounds.
