Project Engineer, Customer Solutions
The Project Engineer, Customer Solutions is responsible for managing all engineering aspects of customer site consolidations, transitions, and new business implementations. This role ensures seamless integration across operations functions and delivers scalable, innovative solutions that meet customer expectations. The engineer leads cross-functional teams, supports strategic planning, and drives continuous improvement across multiple sites.
Primary Responsibilities
- Guide new solution design for facilities, equipment, and material handling systems.
- Plan, lead, organize, and control multiple project initiatives within approved scope and schedule.
- Engage Sales, Solutions, and Operations to validate business scope and ensure alignment with contract documents and technical specifications.
- Apply principles of Operational Excellence including Labor Management Systems, Workforce Optimization, and Performance Coaching.
- Translate business requirements into robust, scalable engineering designs and manage change control throughout the project lifecycle.
- Implement complex business requirements using appropriate tools and technologies.
- Direct cross-functional implementation teams to deploy production requirements across sites.
- Ensure smooth transition to operations post go-live and during ramp-up phases.
- Collaborate with customer representatives and operations leadership to ensure process adherence during implementation.
- Identify and mitigate project risks in coordination with project managers.
- Create documentation to support transition from implementation to post-implementation support.
- Assess industry trends and recommend improvements within the engineering function.
- Resolve start-up issues related to site layout and equipment; automate and improve facilities.
- Manage product development projects, ensuring cost, quality, and schedule targets are met.
- Design and evaluate new products and components; introduce product improvements.
- Forecast and assess new technologies and materials for future use.
- Support strategic project and product planning efforts.
- Assist Industrial Engineers, Quality Engineers, Sales/Marketing teams, and external vendors with product-related initiatives.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience.
- In lieu of degree, high school diploma or GED and 10 years of relevant experience.
- Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project, and Access skills are required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Direct customer-facing and implementation delivery experience.
- Ability to quickly learn new concepts and technologies and convert them into customer solutions.
- Experience managing others including contractors and suppliers.
- PMP certification is highly preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as a team.
- Customer service driven.
- Problem solving and analytics aptitude.
- Combination of limited home office and on-site work with the ability to travel up to 75% of the time throughout the United States and Canada (additional international travel may also be required).
- Strong team player.
- A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
