As part of the European Central planning & Engineering (P&E) properties team, you will be executing properties projects throughout Europe. The projects can vary from small improvements projects to a local station, to execute the construction of a completely new, state-of-the-art, hub which serves several countries throughout Europe. The Engineers of the Central P&E Properties team will guide/execute several projects at the same time, usually in different stages of execution. Although led from the Central team, requirements usually come from the local teams and in most cases, local contractors will execute portions of the work in combination with global suppliers. Making it vital for the Project Specialist to find balance between local regulations, global FedEx standards and requirements issued by the local team, and in the meantime run the project on time, on schedule and compliant with company policy.

What you will be doing:

  • Lead or support multiple engineering and construction/material handling projects or initiatives under general direction, with scope and responsibility depending on the seniority of the candidate. Most projects will involve real estate, construction, and administrative aspects.

  • Manage or assist with schedules, resources, and budgets for multiple construction and material handling projects throughout Europe. This includes engineering design, scope of work, procurement, installation, start-up, training, maintenance, documentation, budget and contract management, invoicing, and other project activities. The level of responsibility will vary based on the candidate's experience.

  • Monitor, report, and ensure compliance with contract requirements for all aspects of a project. Expected to work under tight or changing timeframes to meet critical business plan deadlines and expectations.

  • Coordinate or contribute to coordination of local and global FedEx teams, suppliers, and legislators within a project. More senior candidates may take a lead role in this area.

  • Develop and manage individual capital and expense budgets for assigned projects and initiatives or supports the process depending on seniority. Prepares project budget requests, ensures compliance, and addresses variances. Proactively manages projects to achieve financial goals.

  • Work with procurement, legal, and other functional areas to bid and contract the necessary work. The extent of involvement will depend on the candidate’s level of expertise.

  • Utilize the FedEx global quality system to improve processes, procedures, and standards as part of continuous improvement efforts. More senior candidates may drive these improvements.

  • Resolve project issues with internal stakeholders and suppliers. Builds solid business relationships with key suppliers to ensure strategic alignment, value engineering, and process innovation in areas such as facility construction and material handling integration.

  • Establish relationships with key internal stakeholders to facilitate project execution. The candidate’s influence and responsibilities in this area will grow with seniority.

  • Ensure project safety, code compliance, and adherence to company requirements.

  • Travel throughout Europe to visit construction sites, meet with developers, contractors, and local colleagues, with an estimated travel time of approximately 20%.

What do you bring with you:

  • A degree or professional qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Real Estate, or a related field.

  • 1 – 5 years of experience in project management, real estate development, or facility engineering, with a proven track record of managing high-impact projects.

  • Fluent in English.

  • Experience in, depending on your experience, strategic planning and executing of complex real estate projects, including land acquisitions, facility design, and large-scale construction. 

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to define and manage budgets, track project milestones, and deliver high-quality results on time and within scope.

  • Proficiency in change management resulting from both internal and external influences, quickly analyze impacts and manage expectations regarding those changes.

  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, AutoCAD) and data analysis tools to support project tracking, reporting, and optimization.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to translate complex technical situations to a non-technical audience and vice versa, leading cross-functional teams.

  • Help and guide our internal stakeholders/clients through a process of change, both from a technical as a personal perspective.

  • Experience in working with diverse teams across regions and functions, and the ability to manage projects in a global context throughout a variety of cultures, both business and cultural.
