Purchase Transportation Spec (Part-Time)
Description
Supports the FedEx FedEx(FedEx) Transportation Network by representing FedEx’s business interest to external customers and transportation suppliers. The position provides external purchase transportation solutions to achieve maximum service and minimize overall transportation cost. The Specialist monitors process improvements, system and technology advancements, purchased transportation administrative processes and procedures to effectively adhere to internal and external compliance requirements.
Essential Functions
- Orchestrates strategic plans/projects to ensure effective cost and service measures are maintained to including peak/non-peak programs, OpCo relationships, and FedEx FedEx backhaul and brokerage initiatives.
- Develops and maintains carrier relationships, and short-term/long-term strategies to best align the FedEx network.
- Manages, analyzes, and conducts bid and rate negotiations, as well as, customer data to award lanes and ensure sufficient coverage for the FedEx Network.
- Manages and coordinates purchase transportation needs for the efficient movement of High Profile account package volume while ensuring carriers can meet FedEx service standards (i.e., inter-modal, program based purchase, ad-hoc purchase transportation).
- Conducts customer communication to purchased transportation setup, shipment updates, cancellation of shipments, issues at pickup/delivery location and carrier equipment pool management.
- Coordinates and interacts with PGH and FedEx field operations, along with other FedEx Operating Companies (OpCo) to ensure the efficient and cost effective movements of trailers in the network (e.g., project twins, hazmat, and backhaul loads, and brokerage moves).
- Utilizes Purchase Programs to plan and maximize external carrier capacity, minimize cost, and ensure flexible solutions for specific areas.
- Investigates and reports external carrier schedule delays, accidents, equipment failures, and problems.
- Supports internal and external customer service request to resolve potential external carrier service issues by using the Purchase Trace, TMS, EDI/MacroPoint, and network knowledge.
- Coordinates and manages carrier activities ensuring shipments are picked up and delivered to final destination in accordance with customer delivery requirements.
- Oversees and maintain purchase transportation programs throughout the year and resolve payment issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education
High School diploma or GED required, bachelor’s degree in business management, Logistics, or related field preferred.
Minimum Experience
Five (5) years' experience required in linehaul operations, logistics, transportation industry, or related area.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Software skills, including use of Microsoft Office software and web-based applications.
Knowledge of concepts, practices, policies and procedures used in field operations
Presentation skills necessary to facilitate training and/or deliver informational sessions to groups and/or individuals.
Ability to effectively provide instruction on process and practice within the department.
Time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills necessary to work in a fast-paced environment, handling various tasks and changing priorities, while maintaining a high attention to detail and accuracy to achieve daily assignments and goals.
Ability to anticipate and identify problems and use sound judgment and fact-based analysis to develop effective and efficient solutions.
Ability to analyze, review, and make recommendations
Ability to troubleshoot issue, draw resources, and develop solutions.
