Special Assignment/Courier Support/Swing/DOT-25
Description
Special assignment with 12 month commitment, providing driver expertise and support for locations in transition to Network 2.0. Assists location meet time definite deliveries/services including PO, FO, Priority Alert, etc. Runs routes in the transitioning market when needed. Trains and coaches employees as needed on new routes to increases efficiency and effectiveness. Assists with large, high profile, and/or medical shippers with priority deliveries and hyper care during pickups.
STAR Courier assignments are for 12 months and may be extended. Upon assignment completion, the employee will be offered a permanent driving position. Most often a position will not be available in their domiciled market, in which case they will be offered their choice of available US driving positions (includes relocation assistance) or severance (if hired from a Network 2.0 location during transition).
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education
High school diploma/GED. Must be licensed for type of vehicle assigned.
Minimum Experience
Six months of courier experience preferred; no preventable accidents/violations in the past two years. Swing Driver experience preferred. HDDI trained preferred. CDL with Hazardous Materials Endorsement (HME) preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Adaptability, strong interpersonal skills; knowledge of FedEx systems; basic PC skills. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to maneuver packages of any weight above 50 lbs. with appropriate equipment and/or assistance from another person. Good human relations and verbal communication skills. Neat appearance since customer contact is required. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. Must be at least 21 years of age.
Job Conditions
Neat appearance since customer contact is required. Travel up to 75%. Must meet qualifications as outlined in section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier safety regulations. Requires medical exam in accordance with FMCSA or FAA regulations. Non-covered safety-sensitive position. Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to understand traffic signs, communicate with traffic safety officials and to respond to official inquiries and directions in accordance with FMCSA enforcement guidance.
