Special Assignment/Mgr Operations
Description
Serves in a management capacity in various locations as needed by the company on a special assignment. Analyzes existing organization in order to increase productivity, service level metrics and progress the organization in accordance with the overall project plan. Provides leadership and guidance to create and maintain a cost-effective operation.
- Management responsibilities include, but are not limited to: hiring, terminations, coaching, skills development, recognition and rewards, performance evaluation and management, discipline, addressing employee concerns and staff productivity.
- Plans, organizes, staffs, directs and controls the day-to-day operations of the assigned operation.
- Ensures the operation is running in accordance with established safety, quality and service standards, ensuring cost and productivity goals are met.
- Oversees/ensures proper quality for customers and/or vendors.
- Determines the assigned operation's strategic goals and ensures quality, service, cost and productivity goals are achieved.
- Creates operational plans based on projected volume, head count, and other special circumstances and factors.
- Serves as a champion for FedEx’s Safety Above All Culture and supports all company safety strategies and initiatives, fostering a safety-conscious culture and ensuring all applicable training is completed as required.
- Participates in the development of and responsible for administering company employee relations strategies, including maintaining the confidentiality of such material and matters.
- Ensures compliance with Company policy and federal, state and local regulations.
- Understands and administers all contractual agreements effectively.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education
High School diploma/GED.
Minimum Experience
One year experience in FedEx supervisory/lead roles, ex. Ramp agent/Ops Lead/Team Lead OR
Two years management experience (for external candidates) OR
Completion of a certified internal leadership development program, including AiM. OR
Bachelor's degree OR
Twelve months general FedEx operations experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of FedEx field operations, features of service, systems, policies and procedures. Ability to inspire a shared vision and empower and motivate a team and to build professional rapport, effectively leading a team and positively influence diverse groups. Proven ability to apply sound business judgment to establish and accomplish goals. Strong customer service skills as well as proficient verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to read, interpret and draw conclusions from numerical data and written information. Software skills, including use of Microsoft Office software and web-based applications as well as a working knowledge of relevant technology, including various devices and computer-based applications. Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to understand traffic signs, communicate with traffic safety officials and to respond to official inquiries and directions in accordance with FMCSA enforcement guidance.
Job Conditions
Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to maneuver packages of any weight above 50 lbs. with appropriate equipment and/or assistance from another person. If necessary, must meet qualifications as outlined in section 391 of the federal motor carrier safety regulations. Must successfully complete weight and balance training if managing any trunk ramp agents. Must possess a valid commercial driver’s license for type of vehicle assigned and required endorsement hazardous materials (HME). FMCSA covered safety sensitive position. Medical exam required. Subject to regulatory alcohol & drug testing, which includes testing for marijuana, PCP, amphetamines, cocaine & opioids. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
