General Summary
The Specialist Brokerage Accounts role manages complex transactions, supports business development, and optimizes client relationships. They manage high-value client accounts, negotiate freight rates, secure capacity in volatile markets, and mentor junior brokers. This role requires closing profitable deals and maintaining complex supply chains.
Primary Responsibilities
- Leverage your established carrier network and industry expertise to manage key client accounts, negotiate competitive rates, and drive revenue growth
- Responsible for executing complex shipments, solving supply chain bottlenecks, and mentoring junior staff
- Negotiate competitive freight rates and contracts with third-party carriers to maximize profit margins and ensure capacity availability
- Manage the entire shipment lifecycle--from booking and dispatch to tracking, tracing, and resolving any logistical disruptions
- Monitor industry trends, seasonality, and capacity fluctuations to make data-driven pricing decisions
- Oversee and expand a portfolio of high-value shipper accounts, ensuring exceptional customer service and identifying upselling opportunities
- Provide consultative guidance to customers on supply chain efficiencies and market conditions
- Exercise independent judgment in carrier selection, pricing strategy, and service design
- Assess service failures and determine appropriate corrective actions, including carrier replacement or escalation strategies
- Interpret and apply FMCSA regulations and internal risk policies to carrier selection and load execution
- Determine carrier eligibility based on safety ratings, insurance coverage, and service performance
- Mitigate operational and financial risk through informed decision-making
- Monitor transportation performance metrics and recommend improvements
- Analyze shipper transportation needs and develop customized logistics strategies
- Partner with operations, finance, and legal teams to structure service agreements and resolve complex issues
- Perform other duties as required
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a related field
- In lieu of degree, high school diploma or GED and 6+ years of relevant experience.
- 2 years of relevant experience.
- Established, active relationships with shippers or carriers are highly preferred.
- Strong persuasion and analytical skills with a proven track record of securing high-margin deals.
- Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and experience with industry-standard CRM or financial reporting software
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to handle escalations and maintain long-term business relationships
- Strong problem-solving capabilities, the ability to work in high-pressure environments, and excellent negotiation and conflict-resolution skills
- Proficiency with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and CRM Software
- Ability to apply critical thinking to resolve complex financial discrepancies independently.
- Strong organization skills
