Provides legal counsel and advice to the corporation and its subsidiaries. Ensures their effective operation in accordance with federal, state and local laws.
Job Specific Information:
This position is for a Senior Attorney I reporting to the Staff Director, Compliance and Global Head of Privacy and will be a member of the Corporate Integrity & Compliance group within the FedEx Legal Department. The attorney will be primarily responsible for providing legal and compliance guidance and advice on all aspects of data privacy throughout the FedEx enterprise. The attorney will have day-to-day responsibility for, among other things, developing, implementing, managing and advising on internal policies, external laws and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the Corporate Integrity & Compliance group, as appropriate, with overall implementation and management of Corporate Integrity & Compliance programs, with a primary emphasis on data privacy.
- Knowledge and experience with data privacy law and internal privacy programs.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues around the world within Compliance and Legal, as well as in other departments including Information Security, Marketing and Internal Audit.
- Actively provide consultative support and advice to management and employees in the US and the international regions about data privacy issues and the FedEx Integrity & Compliance Programs.
- Remain abreast of laws, regulations, best practices, and trends related to FedEx compliance programs generally and to the data privacy program specifically.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Considered a Plus:
- IAPP certification strongly preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with multinational corporate compliance programs, including experience working with international locations or handling international compliance-related issues.
- Knowledge and experience with enterprise risk management and/or compliance risk assessment programs.
- Knowledge and experience advising on the development, deployment and governance of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies.
- Proficient with third party compliance technology platforms and data analytics.
- Excellent organizational, communications, project management and human relations skills.
Essential Functions:
- Provide legal counsel, advice, review and direction to various departments and members of management on all levels in regard to regulatory affairs and environmental issues.
- Ensure company compliance with all applicable federal, state & local commercial regulations & ensure that all legal obligations of the company are properly recognized & carried out.
- Stay abreast of existing & new regulations & review, analyze & provide comments to notices of proposed rulemakings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education:
- Juris Doctorate degree from an Accredited Bar Association (ABA). Accredited law school and admission to the bar.
- Superior academic record.
Minimum Experience:
- Six (6) years of experience and demonstrated competence as a practicing attorney in a relevant area of law.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to determine appropriateness of settlement or litigation.
- Excellent research and writing skills.
- Strong negotiation, human relations and communications skills.
