VAT Automation & E-Invoicing Advisory – Summary
Person provides expert guidance on VAT automation, e-invoicing, and SAF-T mainly for Italy and propable for other European markets, support projects to implement and optimize digital VAT compliance systems, SDI reporting, ensuring accurate reporting and regulatory alignment. Her role includes supporting audits, enhancing the tax control framework, delivering internal training on VAT digitalization, and fostering cross-functional collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.

What you will be doing:

VAT Automation and E-Invoicing Advisory

Act as a key advisor in the field of VAT automation, e-invoicing, and SAF-T, with a primary focus on Italy. Provide expert guidance on the digital transformation of VAT compliance processes, including the implementation, integration, and optimization of automated VAT systems. Collaborate closely with internal teams and external advisors to ensure accurate application of VAT regulations, leveraging technology-driven solutions to enhance compliance and operational efficiency.
Specifically, oversee Italian VAT and SDI (Sistema di Interscambio) activities, ensuring full compliance with Italy’s mandatory e-invoicing regulations, as well as the accurate preparation and timely submission of VAT returns. Ensure that Italian VAT rules are accurately integrated into automated systems and VAT return data fully reconciles with general ledger bookings. Coordinate with local advisors and IT teams to address regulatory updates and technical requirements related to SDI and Italian VAT reporting.

VAT Audits and Inquiries

Support responses to VAT audits and inquiries related to automated VAT processes, e-invoicing, and SAF-T submissions. Prepare and organize digital documentation, ensuring that automated systems support smooth, accurate audit responses and compliance with European tax authority requirements. For Italy, ensure that SDI-related documentation and transmission logs are properly archived and accessible for audit purposes.

Enhancing VAT Control Framework

Contribute to the design and development of the Italy's tax control framework, with a particular focus on automation and digital compliance for indirect taxes. Refine policies and procedures to ensure they accommodate evolving e-invoicing, SAF-T, and VAT automation standards, maintaining strong operational efficiency and compliance. Incorporate Italian-specific controls and validations to ensure SDI compliance is embedded within the broader VAT control framework.

Training and Knowledge Building

Assist in building VAT awareness across the organization by supporting training initiatives focused on VAT automation, e-invoicing, and SAF-T compliance. Help teams understand the impact of VAT automation on their business processes and assist with providing practical solutions for compliance.

Cross-Functional Communication and Relationship Management

Build strong internal networks within the company by collaborating across departments, aligning on VAT automation strategies, and influencing cross-functional teams to achieve compliance. Externally, maintain key partnerships with tax authorities, industry experts, and consultants to stay ahead of regulatory developments in e-invoicing and VAT automation. Engage with Italian tax authorities and local advisors to monitor changes in SDI regulations and ensure timely implementation of updates.


What do you bring with you:

Excellent language skills (Written/verbal) including English, Italian language and another language is a plus.

Diploma in Tax law/Economics/Accounting.

Minimum of 6 years work experience in VAT/Tax/Accounting.

Experience with managing projects independently.

Excellent soft skills including communication, flexibility, innovative thinking, exposure on dealing with senior management, analytical skills, judgement and decision making, working independently.

Experience with Thomson Reuters’ OneSource Indirect Tax Compliance software is a plus.
