Description

Provides timely quality maintenance for FedEx vehicle fleet and ground support equipment which requires preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, modifications, and documentation. Document work with appropriate repair orders and parts ordering using FedEx computer systems. Ensure work is in accordance with OSHA and DOT standards.

Essential job functions:

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose and perform quality maintenance and repair of trailers.  
  • Build, rebuild, and repair all parts of trailer equipment to specifications as assigned.  
  • Read and understand job orders ensuring corrective action and the documentation of repair processes to company standards.  
  • Assist other technicians on work orders/jobs requiring assistance.  
  • Provide excellent customer service to communicate with customers and vendors and effectively resolve issues. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Education
High school diploma/GED. Vocational training from an accredited automotive-related vocational school preferred.


Minimum Experience
Two (2) years fleet, automotive / heavy truck vehicle advanced technical repair, trailer technician and carpentry maintenance experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability work with hands to use tools and work on mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance task by following foreman and manager’s instruction.  
  • Ability to install the following parts: cross members, panels, posts, rails, door equipment, flooring, lights, wiring, brakes, valves, airlines, wheel end components, landing gear, frame assembly, and other parts; requiring the ability to lift up to 50 Ibs. 
  • Ability to examine system parts & safety devices looking for damage, excessive wear, and structural deficiencies on all types of trailers. 
  • Knowledge of the use and operation of all equipment and testing equipment, gauges and tools normally associated with the troubleshooting and repair of hydraulic, gasoline, diesel, and electric equipment. Proficient skills in operating a personal computer. Demonstration of teamwork and interpersonal skills. Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to understand traffic signs, communicate with traffic safety officials and to respond to official inquiries and directions in accordance with FMCSA enforcement guidance.

Job Conditions:

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Possession of basic set of automotive hand tools including metric sizes. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and maneuver any weight above 50 pounds with assistance on a regular basis. Ability to work without supervision for extended time periods. Must be able to work in noisy, non-air-conditioned/heated work area. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. Must be willing to work any shift. Must possess a valid driver's license in state of residence. Non-covered safety-sensitive position.  Work environment: Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled service department.

Pay: $22.72 - $28.63

In New Jersey, any compensable Security and Walk time will be paid to non-exempt/hourly employees at the state minimum wage.
