VP Global Ocean Freight

Reporting to the President, FedEx Logistics, this position represents the senior-most Ocean Product role. The Vice President, Global Ocean Freight will plan, direct, and monitor all aspects of ocean freight operations internationally. This responsibility includes meeting the performance, growth, profitability and cash flow objectives of the global ocean freight operations. In addition, this role leads business planning, product pricing, strategic carrier relationship, service improvements & global product strategy development. The position will develop a world class team, processes, and systems to support and scale for performance, growth and meet company objectives around people, service, and profit.
Essential Duties / Responsibilities:
Serves as the senior-most executive representing and delivering results for the global ocean operations in support of the company’s overall strategies and goals.
Sets strategy for growth, performance and profitability within the ocean product by understanding industry dynamics, customer-industry forecasts, and partnering with regional operations teams.
Leads the ocean product to ensure financial, operational, regulatory and compliance, quality, customer goals and objectives are achieved.
Develops and maintains the ocean product leadership team to effectively manage all associated functions and operations necessary to achieve objectives.
Serves as the executive point of contact for developing and maintaining effective customer relationships.
Drives Quality Driven Management through the organization by identifying metrics and performance standards and holding people accountable to use tools and methods necessary to facilitate fact-based management.
Manages the performance of direct reports by monitoring workforce metrics and delivering coaching and counseling as needed to ensure they are effectively managing the workforce in their respective areas.
Ensures operations are in compliance with all federal, state, local, customs and maritime industry regulations.
Develops, monitors, and maintains the success, accuracy, current status and operational effectiveness of implemented plans, policies, and operating procedures within the ocean product.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Advanced degree in Business preferred. BA/BS degree in Logistics, Industrial Engineering or other related operations discipline is strongly preferred. Alternatively, military rank at O5. Additional job-related certifications preferred.
A minimum of ten (10) years of proven senior ocean product management experience, preferably within international forwarding or NVOCC logistics environment responsible for strategic planning, managing customer relationships, contracts, pricing, P&L, QDM, and talent management.
A broad knowledge of global customs regulations and policies, with significant experience in global ocean freight and customs brokerage industries.
Understanding of federal maritime commission regulations and policies, and transportation trade laws.
Leadership experience in a highly regulated maritime operations environment required.
Preferable experience living and working in Europe or Asia in Ocean leadership capacity
Understanding of logistics management trends, worldwide trade relationships, tariffs and trade agreements affecting world economies.
Experience leading a highly motivated management team, and developing a performance culture among a group of diverse, talented individuals
Strategic vision and proven execution; experience creating long term solutions to help businesses grow
Strong collaborative, relationship, communications and team building skills in a global network organization.
Substantial travel required.
