IT Capacity Planner
Description
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Responsible for forecasting, analyzing, and planning compute, storage, network, and database capacity across the enterprise. Ensure that infrastructure resources meet current and future business demand while maintaining required performance, availability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop and maintain enterprise capacity models for compute, storage, network, and databases based on workload forecasts and business growth assumptions.
2. Collect, analyze, and interpret performance and utilization data from monitoring tools, observability platforms, and system logs to identify trends and future resource requirements.
3. Create and publish capacity reports, dashboards, and forecasts with actionable insights, risks, and recommendations for leadership and technical teams.
4. Collaborate with architecture and engineering to plan infrastructure investments, refresh cycles, modernization initiatives, and scaling strategies.
5. Identify capacity risks and constraints across data centers and cloud platforms; propose mitigation strategies including load balancing, optimization, or resource scaling.
6. Develop long-term capacity strategies and lifecycle plans for hardware, virtualization, storage, and database infrastructure components.
7. Evaluate the impact of new projects, applications and business initiatives on infrastructure capacity and performance.
8. Support budget planning, cost modeling, and financial forecasting by translating capacity needs into CapEx/OpEx requirements.
9. Establish and maintain capacity-related KPIs and SLAs, ensuring infrastructure meets performance, reliability, and availability targets.
10. Provide recommendations for optimization, automation, and rightsizing to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
11. Work with vendors and internal teams to understand roadmap impacts, technology trends, and capacity implications for enterprise platforms.
12. Contribute to disaster recovery planning by modeling capacity needs for failover scenarios and multi-site redundancy.
13. Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay Range: $93,851.00 - $180,195.00 per year

This compensation range is a reasonable estimate of the current starting pay range in NJ. If this opportunity includes multiple job levels, the range is a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary for the lowest level to the current starting salary of the highest level. Actual starting pay is determined by experience relative to the job, market level, specific location and other job-related factors permitted by law. Regular full & part-time employees (who complete 91 days of employment and work a minimum average of 12 hours per week) are eligible to enroll in medical, dental, and/or vision coverage, tuition reimbursement. Full/part-time employees who are age 21 are eligible for 401(k) after one month of employment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or related field.
• Seven (7) years’ experience in IT infrastructure, systems engineering, performance analysis, capacity management, or technical disciplines.
• Hands-on experience with compute, storage, virtualization, network, or database platforms, including performance and utilization metrics.
• Proficiency with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Splunk, Dynatrace, SolarWinds, Grafana, Prometheus, vRealize, enterprise monitoring stacks).
• Strong analytical and statistical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and forecast trends.
• Experience building capacity models, dashboards, or forecasting reports for enterprise environments.
• Working knowledge of infrastructure lifecycle planning, performance engineering, and resource optimization principles.
• Ability to communicate technical insights, risks, and commendations to engineers, architects, and leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams across architecture, engineering, operations, security, and finance.
• Strong documentation skills and proficiency with tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar analytical/reporting platforms.
