Solutions Architect
Description
Under limited guidance, work at the business unit level developing the end-to-end solution architecture for significant initiatives in partnership with key business and IT stakeholders.
Essential Functions
About the Role - We are seeking a Solution Architect to bridge business needs with IT capabilities in a Sterling B2Bi and IBM Sterling ITX environment. This role owns the design and delivery of end-to-end B2B integration solutions, with strong emphasis on EDI, protocol management, SPEC-based shipment files, and shipment lifecycle processes.
The ideal candidate combines solid technical expertise in B2B/EDI platforms with good business acumen and contributes to complex programs from concept to production. You will also explore practical ways to leverage AI/ML to improve integration quality and operational efficiency. Prior experience is helpful, but a strong willingness to learn is equally welcome.
- Design and deliver scalable end-to-end B2B integration solutions using Sterling B2Bi and ITX, ensuring alignment with business and customer requirements.
- Analyze business processes and translate requirements into integration solutions, roadmaps, and technical designs.
- Manage the full EDI and protocol lifecycle, including trading partner onboarding, partner profiles, trading agreements, mappings, translation rules, and support for X12 and EDIFACT standards.
- Design and implement solutions for SPEC-based shipment files and order/shipment lifecycle processes, including data validation, transformation, and exception handling.
- Define and advocate integration patterns (EDI translation, message routing, APIs, event-driven architectures, and queuing) while ensuring security, reliability, and scalability.
- Configure and validate B2B transports and security mechanisms (AS2/AS4, SFTP/FTP, HTTP/S, SOAP/REST, and others).
- Collaborate with infrastructure, networking, and operations teams on high availability, load balancing, performance tuning, backup/restore, disaster recovery strategies, and operational runbooks.
- Contribute to cross-functional project delivery, working with business sponsors, PMO, security, QA, operations, and vendors. Participate in architectural governance, design reviews, and architecture decision records (ADRs).
- Develop and maintain architecture artifacts (high-level designs, ASMs, runbooks, etc.) and ensure compliance with enterprise standards and controls.
- Monitor performance, reliability, and business impact metrics; support risk assessments, root-cause analysis, and incident post-mortems.
- Mentor junior technical staff and business analysts; promote best practices in integration architecture, data quality, and delivery excellence.
- Explore opportunities where AI/ML can add value to B2B integration processes (such as mapping support, document handling, or exception management).
- Support the adoption of AI-augmented tools by providing guidance and training to business analysts, integrators, and operations teams.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Hands-on experience with Sterling B2Bi and/or IBM Sterling ITX (or equivalent enterprise B2B/EDI platforms), including trading partner management, mappings, translation, and SPEC-based shipment files.
- Good knowledge of EDI standards (X12, EDIFACT), shipment workflows, and B2B data exchange patterns.
- Experience with B2B protocols and transports: AS2/AS4, SFTP/FTP, HTTP/S, SOAP/REST, including security and data integrity controls.
- Understanding of networking, high availability, load balancing, disaster recovery, monitoring, and incident response.
- Ability to contribute to complex, multi-stakeholder projects and influence stakeholders effectively.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Analytical mindset with good problem-solving skills and a business-oriented approach.
- Interest in AI/ML concepts with a willingness to learn and apply them to integration challenges.
- Professional certifications (TOGAF, ITIL, CISSP) and/or IBM Sterling certifications (preferred).
- Some experience working with AI/ML tools or services in an integration or operations context (preferred).
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), CI/CD for integration deployments, and cloud integration patterns (AWS, Azure) (preferred).
- Knowledge of data modeling, data governance, and security/compliance in B2B environments (preferred).
- Background in a regulated industry or global supply chain / logistics (preferred).
