POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Director, Accounting leads the accounting operations for FedEx Freight, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial information across the enterprise. This role oversees general ledger, accounts payable, and close processes while driving automation, efficiency, and compliance across the accounting function
Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, the Director provides leadership and oversight for day-to-day accounting operations, ensures alignment with the broader Finance organization, and supports initiatives related to system integration, internal controls, and future-state readiness
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership and Oversight
Lead the accounting operations function, ensuring accurate and timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
Oversee general ledger, payables, and financial systems activities to support accurate reporting
Build and develop a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Partner with external auditors to support audits and ensure accurate documentation
Governance, Policy, and Controls
Maintain robust internal controls and support SOX readiness across accounting processes
Ensure compliance with corporate accounting policies and regulatory standards
Coordinate with the CAO, Reporting, and Tax teams to align accounting processes with enterprise governance
Strategic Collaboration
Partner with Finance Systems and Reporting teams to improve process automation and data integrity
Support system and process integration related to the Oracle ERP implementation
Provide insights and recommendations to the CAO and CFO to enhance accounting efficiency and transparency

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly preferred
Experience:
Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive accounting, financial reporting, or audit experience in a large or complex organization
At least five (5) years in a leadership role overseeing accounting operations
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and internal control requirements
Experience leading accounting operations, close, and consolidation processes
Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle) and automation tools
Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills
Ability to influence and collaborate across finance and business functions
JOB CONDITIONS:
